Last week I received an Insta-Gram note from a man in New Zealand who had been following my work over the internet. He was in Hollywood for a visit and wanted to know the closest gallery where he can see my work. Laguna was the closest. The tiny little Las Laguna Gallery on the cliff over looking the ocean has a great selection of my work. I wanted to make sure he left the gallery with a great collection from my latest creations, so I met him at the gallery with a fresh basket of Meditation Rocks. I normally do not do that, but I needed to visit the gallery anyway. He was such a sweet man! He made a very thoughtful selection of each piece while we laughed and chatted. We ended up spending a great afternoon together! Since it was Halloween time, candy was everywhere, so I introduced him to his very first Reeses Peanut butter Cup! HA! He said he had heard of them from American TV. He said they were tastier than he thought. I was so happy that I was able to make a new friend! Today my little creations are New Zealand bound with one of the kindest souls ever! Laguna was not the only gallery/shop that I visited this week. Pangaea Outpost in Pacific Beach received an entirely new selection. I added some festive lights to my display to add a little festive vibe. Pangaea Outpost has been a hub for my work for many years. I am always amazed at the traffic and happy vibes that hit you right when you walk in the doors. Pangaea has everything! My work sits quietly in a glass cabinet in the middle of the isle. Drop by and pick a few up. You might fall in love with one or two of them. I never know who will end up with one of my treasures, but I know who ever does will fall in love at first glance. The galleries and shop owners always tell me that they know people are looking through my collection when the hear giggles, sighs and rocks clicking as they are picked up and replaced. Hearing this makes my heart smile because there are times I am laughing as I am creating. I want someone to see or receive one of my Meditation Rocks, flip it over and know the thought, mantra or affirmation was meant just for them. There are times, when I think of what I am going to write, the most obscure thing comes to mind. I do not hesitate, I just paint it on knowing just the right person will receive it. I accept commission requests if you have a personal thought you would like me to design around. I create art in all forms, all styles and materials. I just thrive on the movement of creativity and experimentation. My work is published in all forms. I really enjoy the modern luxury and available venues created for artists in our modern times. It was not too long ago, in this artists life, to mass produce a product as simple as a pillow or tote was a BIG-BIIIIG deal!
I went through the process in the 80’s and 90’s. Meetings, color swatches, fabric samples, meetings, more meetings and boxes of products you then had to get in the hands of buyers. Before the internet we used magazines, word of mouth, shops, festivals, mail order catalogs and coupons. It was VERY exciting when someone would mail in their order and I would have to fill it, ship it and wait to hear that they loved it....usually that came by mail if they took the time. Today I can spend more time creating and getting the word out on the internet! Please visit my online Zazzle Boho-Rhapsody shop for some colorful and FUN-CTIONAL products www.zazzle.com/bohorhapsody/products SAN DIEGO IS FIRE HOT THIS WEEK!We get to experience a few days of crazy heat from time to time just so we remember to appreciate how great we have it most days. I have been laying low, hanging on the beach with friends and painting away! I created a little July Rock video using my succulents as stage hands and the cool blues music of my friend Ben Powell as my sound track. I ran into Ben at the beach and asked if he wouldn’t mind letting me use his music to give my rock video a groovy sound. I am a super fan of his, so I am thankful to get to see the little collaboration. Check out Ben’s music and catch him on a gig or concert https://www.benpowellmusic.com/ I received an e-mail from a Photo Journalist in The Navy, stationed in Coronado, asking if she could shadow me through my day to capture the life of an artist. I could not resist helping her with her project. I also could not resist taking pictures of my shadow, Daniel Baker, while she was tailing me.
I knew she could not watch me paint all day, so I made sure we hit the office shots, gallery shots, painting shots as well as outdoor shots. The beach is obviously an important part of my life, so I chose one that I thought would give her the a quick dose of natures spirit in a very unique way. All of our beaches are unique and beautiful, but this one really rocks! We ended the day with chai tea and ice cream so I could make sure she experienced a sweet time while taking a peek into an otherwise, VERY, private life. Emerald C Gallery, |
