I love my Artist Colony tribe. Inspiration is shared in so many ways!
These Italian coffee cans were passed from artist to artist and ended up in my hands two weeks ago. They are illy cans. Bright red coffee cans with high end coffee and screw top lids. I could not resist turning them into creations. One artists trash is another's treasure!
I love my Artist Colony tribe. Inspiration is shared in so many ways!
Silver Age Yoga is one of my favorite organizations to support. They provide free yoga and chair yoga classes to senior citizens.
I created a large Meditation Rock for their silent auction. I thought is would be a perfect addition to a yoga room or zen garden.
I placed an image on social media and my collectors outside of the community began to e-mail bids. This was a first for Silver Age Yoga!
I was so excited to see the final bid was $375.00. It went to a bidder who attended the event. It made my heart smile and will help provide free classes for seniors who love to practice with the teachers who have been specifically trained to lead geriatric yoga.
Thanks to friends chatting with friends I was invited to place my Meditation Rocks in the cutest Gallery and social hub in Coronado island! The second I walked into the door I knew this was a place I wanted to be. Bright light and smooth ocean breeze bathes the gallery to help control the october heat wave!
Emerald C Gallery has amazing art by an eclectic group of artists. Many of the artists are friends of mine or artists I have followed through out the years.
Penny Rothschild is the owner and designer of amazing silver creations and stunning leather purses.(see pictures) She is happy, friendly and has created a magical retreat for artists, authors & creatives providing classes and social events.
No doubt tourists enjoy the Southern California vibe when they wander into 'The Gem by the Sea!" Drop by and tell them I sent you!
I know this site is about my Meditation Rocks, but I am also an illustrator and graphic designer. At times my worlds collide as they have this month.
I am the illustrator for the True Tails From the Dog Park series by Max & Luther Publications. They had the launch of their 2nd book at Warwick's in La Jolla. It was an amazing showcase in an historical shop!
You know it is a local favorite when you hear it has been family owned since 1886.
Anyway, I always find ways to support my authors... so, I contacted The Amazing A Store to do a write up and they did one show casing my Meditation Rocks!! I wanted to post the article/interview because I really like it!
It has been one hot summer in San Diego this year, and it is still muy caliente!! I have been keeping my cool by staying calm and painting with reckless abandon in the coolest spot I can find.
I am inventing new styles and using new medium with each series. I try to provide eye candy for my collectors as well as keeping my work fresh! The experimentation and playful quality of my work adds to the spirit of the outcome I think.
These Meditation Rocks really are my joy and passion.
I always like to have a wide range of Meditation Rocks in inventory for my clients, shops and galleries to choose from.
The exciting news that ended my summer is the addition of Beads Crystals & More! This is an iconic bead shop in the Lumberyard on Coast Highway 101 in Encinitas. It is the place where creatives get lost in treasures, possibilities and ideas! It is an iconic resting place for creatives here on the coast and those who travel far and wide to visit.
Beads Crystals & More now provide my meditation Rocks to their fans! They even selected teeny-tiny meditation Rocks that are perfect for wire wrapping and any creative process that needs a natural, rustic addition!
I hope to announce the launch of Beads Crystals & More online site soon.It is in the works! The online site will make it possible for those who live in small towns that do not have a groovy, beachy bead shops in their community to have access to the same materials we have in Encinitas.
For those who can visit-drop by!

Till then, keep cool!!
I remember when friends use to tell me I needed to make my Meditation Rocks available in shops and galleries.
I blinked, then opened my eyes to realize my Meditation Rocks are now in 6 shops, Boutiques and Galleries!
I was amazed to read a post by friends and collectors saying they took my "rock tour" visiting almost all the shops where my Meditation Rocks are sold. I felt blessed and supported by great friends, beautiful energy and the desire to continue.
If you have been watching the design changes and progress in my technique, you will be happy to see metallic colors and a few illustrated designs seeping into my flow.
I hope you enjoy my new direction! I would love to hear from you!
Every morning I free flow with my meditation rocks with only my love of creation and desire for my coffee to finish brewing.
The other morning I created a Sun Meditation Rock. I normally do not illustrate on my rocks, but this particular morning I just went with my intuition. When I finished, I took a quick picture for my Instagram acct. (@JulieAnnStricklin)
Within 24 hours CBS SUNDAY MORNING sent me a quick note asking if I would like my sun rock on their SUNDAY MORNING Show. It happens to be my long time favorite show. My heart jumped!
They never saw the back side of the sun, the moon.
My friends and followers saw the moon from a Facebook post. I think the Sun & Moon face will be a regular theme.
I wanted the time I spent creating my meditation rocks to be pure play, no rules, only free flow creativity. 'Art for art sake'. I was missing that time in my life. I needed to carve out the time to grow and learn while playing and experimenting. I actually had to give myself permission to be a carefree artist even though I am an artist all day. It sounds strange, but I know how to create for my clients, but I was losing my ability to play. The morning time starts with this quiet Meditative practice.
I hope you can feel my spirit on each piece. I hope each design provokes the viewer to stop their thoughts long enough to enjoy a random curiosity. Take the time to stop and observe for no reason other than the joy of being present.
I get inspired by 'randomness'. Things I see, songs, weather...just about anything. I try to encourage my spark of inspiration to continue to grow in the minds of others by creating work from my heart.. Sometimes it just takes a spark of inspiration to encourage great things. We need more heartfelt, positive soul inspiration on this planet.
Creating my meditation Rocks are still a daily joy for me. I am already 4 years into my Meditation rock journey. I really thought this would be a creative exercise and phase, but I seem to need to make them as much as people are enjoying collecting them.
This year I am experimenting with new techniques and materials. I can see the design choices I am making have taken my new series into a new direction even if the change is very subtle. I think the creative growth feels natural and welcomed.
